The new biometric residency card (TIE)

The new TIE card (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) is now available for legally registered UK nationals to replace their existing Residencia.

The new card is not mandatory (as yet) and the existing green residencia paper or card is still legal and identifies your right to residency in Spain under the agreed laws invoked by Brexit.

There have been a number of instances where the old Residence Card/Letter has not been accepted as proof of residency and a TIE has been requested. This is not correct. Click HERE to view/print a document issued by the Spanish Government explaining the current situation.
